GEPS

The beginning of our maritime high school goes back to the year 1947 when Slovenska pomorska trgovska akademija (Slovenian Academy of Maritime Trade) was founded with 29 students enrolled the very first year. Students could choose among the three programs: nautical, mechanical engineering, and shipbuilding.

The following year the school moved into a renovated building of former customs offices in the harbor of Piran. The number of students and teachers increased rapidly, which led to more numerous classes. Workshops got equipped with new tools, instruments, and devices, which helped students to learn and gain knowledge.

The year 1966 marks an important milestone in the evolution of our school, as the school started a new program, electro technician, and two years later, another program, mechanical engineering technician. The result was a noticeable increase in students. With the years passing by the school underwent many program and pedagogic changes. Transport technician/logistics technician is a program that has also been offered as one of the options for many years. On 25 May 1961, the school moved into a new building, still used today, which was meant not only for high school students but also for university students to complete their studies.

Since 1 January 2013, the school has been joined with High School in Piran and got a new name Gimnazija, elektro in pomorska šola Piran (Academic Electro and Maritime High School Piran). The school is organized into three organizational units: academic school in Piran (250 students), Electronics and Maritime High School in Portorož (240 students), and Hostel (150 students). We are currently implementing the following programs at the school:

  • Academic program
  • Electro technician
  • Nautical technician
  • Logistic program

The hostel is also an integral part of our school. The hostel has 28 single, double and triple bedrooms with 191 beds, and shared bedrooms for larger organized groups. The hostel is built in four floors; each floor is divided into left and right corridor. The hostel was completely renovated and air-conditioned in 2019.
